Invisalign or braces?

Invisalign or braces? It’s not quite the age-old question, but it’s definitely an important one. While Invisalign and braces are both designed to straighten your teeth, they go about the job in very different ways.

As most people know, braces consist of metal brackets that are bonded to the front of the teeth. These brackets are connected by an archwire that guides them to proper alignment. Braces are usually worn for 1-3 years, depending on the severity of the patient’s misalignment, and are now available in a variety of discreet colors.

Invisalign applies a different tactic, aligning teeth with a custom-made series of trays that are worn over the teeth, comfortably and gently shifting one’s teeth into place. Unlike braces, no metal brackets or wires are required with Invisalign, making it practically invisible. Better yet, there’s little maintenance involved. Simply insert a new aligner tray every two weeks until the treatment is complete. It’s that simple.
